Coach: Al Graham
“Exceptional Volunteer Coach”
North Charleston Recreation Department

Many youth in North Charleston are from single parent homes, are not blessed with wealth, and are without a father figure in their lives. Fortunately, for a portion of those youth that participate in the North Charleston Recreation Department, there is Al Graham.

Al has coached within the Department for eighteen (18) years in the sports of football and basketball. His passion to help guide, mold, and nurture youth is easily evident when you witness his coaching style. He not only teaches fundamentals of the sport he’s coaching, he also teaches life lessons. A quality coach quite often serves as a “father figure” for youth without a man in their lives. Al gives of his time and resources to help the youth and is a perfect role model in his attire on and off the field.

Certainly, in youth athletics, winning is not the most important element of a program but when winning is accomplished “the right way”, a special coach is involved. Al has won three (3) State Football titles and finished as the Runner-Up once during his tenure at North Charleston! If he does not win, his demeanor and conduct is the same as if he had won.

Al Graham has touched hundreds of children’s lives during his volunteer coaching career. He is the prototype of an “Exceptional Volunteer Coach” and we highly recommend him for the “Sports 4 Success” Coaches Award.
