  Coach Bliss has that presence about him that brings the word integrity to the great sport of wrestling. He does things first class and always has wrestlers and the well being of the sport in mind when making his decisions and nothing else. I have known Coach Bliss for over 30 years and admire that he is coaching with the same high level of enthusiam that he had his very first day on the job as a coach. Obviously, in the car and music business, Coach Bliss is a classic. Thanks for all the advice and being such a great role model for us all.

  Mr. Bliss (“Barney” as many of us knew him) is and always has been known for his knowledge of wrestling and his ability to motivate his wrestling teams each and every year. What many do not know is that he was not only an excellent wrestling coach but in many cases, he was a father figure away from home to many of us as we were going through a very impessionable stage of our lives. Barney always found the time to listen and he knew exactly how to handle all of the ups and downs that each of us was experiencing while continuing to be one of best coaches in the country for us. I can clearly recall him being involved and sitting through countless hours of our matches and tournaments as he freely offered his time, patience and expertise with administration and/or coaching duties. He was always one to do a lot for both the sport and his wrestlers when nobody was actually looking or evaluating. In 1984, I was presented with the “Coaches Award” by Mr Bliss and to this day, I can honestly say that this was one of proudest moments in my life. It was not so much as what the award stood for but more-so because of who it came from for me…To this day, I continue to be influenced not only by Barney’s teachings in the wrestling room but in the life skills that he taught and shared with all of us. Still miss ya Barney…hope to see you again soon.

  Wrestling: A sport where at one point I declined being part of the program because I felt anger and hatred all mixed in one. Day after day and week after week I was told to come up and practice with the team. Finally Richard Bliss aka Barn was able to force my overside load behind up the imfamous staircase and that is when it all started. I took for grandted my coach is and will go down as the best high school wrestling coach in the state, not just because of wrestling because hes relationship and abiltiy to create moments for all wrestlers, whether your a three time state champ or a JV wrestler. Mr. Bliss is a role model for all of the alumni that went before him. There is only one Barn, and I am blessed tto still be apart of coaching. Love teh website

  Dad, I am so proud of you! All of my life I have seen you help kids to learn how to set goals, build confidence, and focus on their desires more than the obsticles. You preach the importance of doing what is right, more than doing what is popular, and I thank you for instilling that in me. I love you very much! Congrats on writing your first book. I know that many coaches will benefit and therefore so will many kids, and your goals will be realized.
